Service Description: Provides hybrid (virtual and in-person) group-based therapeutic communication services for adults with aphasia * program follows a life participation approach with a focus on enhancing communication skills and supporting quality of life * services include:
  • conversation group therapy
  • aphasia book club
  • aphasia support groups
  • caregiver and family support groups
  • Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) support groups
  • partner communication training
Groups are facilitated by speech-language pathologists and communicative disorders assistants, with support from a social worker

Fees: $10 per session, paid as a 3-month membership
Application: Visit www.h-pcap.com/referrals.html to complete a referral
Eligibility / Target Population: Medically stable adults 18 years and older with aphasia due to stroke or injury to the brain who live in the community or retirement home setting * must be willing to participate in supportive conversation groups * must demonstrate appropriate behaviour in a social group setting * must have no or minimal cognitive difficulties * client care needs (i.e. toileting, feeding) are met by client or caregiver * must have access to internet and a computer or tablet

We educate the community about aphasia and provide training and support to family members, friends, and caregivers and also enhance the communication skills and quality of life of people with aphasia using a Life Participation Approach to Aphasia (LPAA)
